Information about Ambassador Soval

Soval - Vulcan ambassador to Earth at the time of the launch of the first  starship Enterprise in 2151. Soval has a somewhat stuffy, condescending attitude toward humans, which causes problems for both Admiral Forrest and Captain Archer. As a child, Archer referred to him as "Ambassador Pointy." Soval objected to giving Archer command of the Enterprise NX-01, and also blamed Archer for the destruction of the P'Jem monastery. [STE]

Soval's service record contains an impressive list of accomplishments. [ENT – Shockwave] In ca. 2050 he served as an intelligence officer in the Vulcan occupation of and expulsion of Andorian colonists from Paan  Mokar. In 2152 he commented to Archer that he hadn't handled a weapon for over fifty years (is this when he joined the Vulcan Diplomatic Service?). He later negotiated the last accord with the Andorians over Paan Mokar (the "Revised Intersystem Agreement?"). [ENT – Cease Fire]

For two years T'Pol served as his science advisor in the Vulcan  Consulate in San Francisco. [ENT – Broken Bow]  Soval announced the cancellation of joint Earth-Vulcan fleet operations by the High Command as a result of the Andorian destruction of the P'Jem Sanctuary in 2151 and was recalled to Vulcan for consultations. [ENT – Shadows of P'Jem

Apparently returning to Earth shortly thereafter, Soval informally requested Starfleet Command to ask Archer to persuade Kov to contact his dying father, a  high-ranking minister of the Vulcan High Command. [ENT – Fusion]  In February 2152 he passed on the High Command's request for Enterprise to ferry Ambassador V'Lar from the planet Mazar to a rendezvous with the Vulcan cruiser Sh'Raan. [ENT – Fallen Hero]   Soval and the High Command used the destruction of the Paraagan colony in 2152 to try to persuade Starfleet to cancel their deep space explorations for twenty years. [ENT – Shockwave, Pt. I-II]

The Andorians requested a meeting with Captain Archer at Paan Mokar (Weytahn), one of their colonies also claimed by the Vulcans in 2152. His shuttle, which also carried T'Pol and Soval, was shot down by Andorian renegade elements. Soval was injured by phaser fire in the left shoulder but recovered from his injuries to start peace talks with Commander Shran of the Andorian Imperial Guard aboard the Enterprise. [ENT – Cease Fire]

Soval tried to warn Captain Archer about entering the Delphic Expanse, even showed him a transmission from the Vankaara immediately before its destruction. [ENT – The Expanse]Captain Archer went ahead with the mission anyway.  Soval ordered T'Pol to return to Vulcan and agreed to allow the Enterprise to ferry her back.  She decided to stay with her shipmates and was discharged from the Vulcan service.

After the Xindi destroyed Earth, Soval offered the now-Captain T'Pol her position  back provided she return to Vulcan and bring Captain Archer with her.  He was certain that Archer could be treated for the parasites that were infecting his hypocampus on Vulcan.  T'Pol declined his offer. [ENT – Twilight]

When the Enterprise returned from the Expanse, Soval questioned Captain Archer during the debriefing about his role regarding leaving the Vulcans stranded in the Expanse aboard the Seleya.  Archer took affront to the questions and became irritated with Soval.  Soval admonished him for getting emotional.  Soval then asked Archer if he downloaded the computer database or sensor information when he was in the ship's Auxiliary Control room.  The answer was no.  Soval then stated that, due to this oversight, no one would be certain exactly what happened on board the Seleya.  Captain Archer then verbally attacked Soval.  The debriefing was suspended.  [ENT – Home]

Later, Archer apologized to Soval, who said that Archer's actions were necessary, although morally questionable.  He stated that he opposed Starfleet naming Archer captain, but now realized that he was in error.  Soval said that he was told that the Expanse would eventually encompass many worlds, including Vulcan.  He told Archer that he (Archer) had done a great service for both of their worlds, then said thank you and offered a handshake.  [ENT – Home]

When Soval met and talked with Admiral Forrest upon his arrival on Vulcan, he mentioned that he was not included in the Vulcan High Command's discussions regarding joint missions with Earth.  Soval confided to Forrest that Vulcans don't know how to deal with Humans, and that they're afraid of Humans because they remind them of themselves years ago.  [ENT – The Forge]

Admiral Maxwell Forrest saved Ambassador Soval's life at the expense of his own when the Earth Embassy on Vulcan was bombed by unknown terrorists.  [ENT – The Forge]

After having recovered from his injuries sustained during the explosion, Soval accompanied Administrator V'Las and Chief Investigator Stel on board the Enterprise.  Soval defended the Syrannites by saying that they've always been peaceful and bombing an embassy is not in their nature.  He told Archer that the Earth Embassy is on Earth soil and the site has been preserved for Archer's investigation.  [ENT – The Forge]

Later, in private, Soval urges Archer not to be put off by Stel telling him the investigation is over.  Soval advised that Archer should go down to Vulcan's surface to continue the investigation.  Soval also says that it makes no sense that the Syrannites are responsible for the bombing.  He also stated that however far Archer had to take the investigation, he had Soval's support.  He must recheck everything and question everything, Soval advised.  [ENT – The Forge]

As Archer and T'Pol were ready to beam down to the surface of Vulcan, Soval handed Tucker a Starfleet data module showing the gaps in satellite surveillance.  These gaps allow for someone to beam down undetected.  [ENT – The Forge]

Ambassador Soval successfully melded with a severely injured Human patient who was a guard in the Earth Embassy and saw who brought the bomb into the building.  This shows that Soval is part of the melding minority and most likely had to keep this a secret to keep his position as ambassador.  [ENT – The Forge]

Through the meld, he ascertained that Chief Investigator Stel planted the bomb in the Earth Embassy.  On board the Enterprise, Soval confronted and accused Stel of this act.  Administrator V'Las was also present and Soval admitted that he got the information via a mind-meld.  [ENT – The Forge]

He was summoned to the High Command to account for his actions.  Soval acquiesced to the demand so that he could talk to the rest of the High Command as well.  [ENT – The Forge]

Soval arrived at the High Command and was relieved of duty by V'Las.  He was ordered to surrender all classified materials to the Security Directorate before leaving.  He is also reminded that his loyalty oath is still in effect.  [ENT – Awakening]

Soval returned to Enterprise to offer any assistance to them that he could.  As for his future, he admitted to Tucker that he hadn't given it much thought.  He is more concerned with helping Enterprise find Archer and T'Pol.  [ENT – Awakening]

Soval explains how they can trigger a malfunction in the imaging node of a satellite that would take six minutes for the error to be corrected.  No suspicion would be raised as malfunctions occur frequently near the Forge.  [ENT – Awakening]

Soval admitted to Tucker that he had served on Earth for more than thirty years and had developed an affinity for the world and its people.  He was told by Tucker that he hid it well, and Soval took that as a compliment.  He thanked Tucker for the statement.  [ENT – Awakening]

Sitting at the science console on board Enterprise, Soval showed that he had the ability and know-how to disable the satellite himself.  The shuttle that's launched, however, is fired upon and the landing is aborted.  Soval concludes that the Vulcan High Command has been monitoring Enterprise's communications.  [ENT – Awakening]

When the shuttle is safely returned, V'Las contacted Enterprise to find out why they had not left as ordered.  Soval admitted that he advised Enterprise to stay and that he gave them the codes to disable the satellite.  [ENT – Awakening]

As the Vulcan ships fire on Enterprise to force her from orbit, Soval advises Tucker that Vulcans do not fire warning shots.  Soval remained at the science station during the firefight and was cool under fire as if he were used to it.  [ENT – Awakening]  Perhaps from his days as an intelligence officer?  [ENT – Cease Fire].  After a brief fight, Soval advised that they should withdraw; that their deaths would not help Archer and T'Pol.  He also reveals that Vulcan is planning on attacking Andoria.  The Vulcan High Command believes that the Andorians have a weapon based on Xindi design and the Vulcans are now planning a pre-emptive strike.  [ENT – Awakening]

After the Enterprise arrives at Andoria, Soval tells Tucker that he knows how to get in touch with Commander Shran.  Soval also assures Tucker that Archer would pursue the same course of action, when he is told of some crew unrest.  [ENT – Kir'Shara]

Soval tells Shran about the impending invasion.  This infuriates Shran who wonders why Soval is betraying his own people.  When asked that, Soval only answered that the High Command was counting on the element of surprise.  If they met resistance, Soval believed that V'Las would be forced to call off the invasion.  [ENT – Kir'Shara]

Soval is kidnapped and tortured aboard the Andorian ship, but Soval tells Shran what he's already told him – that is, where the Vulcan ships are deployed.  [ENT – Kir'Shara]

He is released hours later but is unconscious.  He is moved to sickbay where he made a full recovery.  [ENT – Kir'Shara]

After his recovery, Soval assures Archer (who has brought the Kir'Shara to the High Command) that the High Command is being disbanded and that Vulcans wouldn't be looking over his shoulder from now on.  [ENT – Kir'Shara]
